Frequently asked questions

What does the app calculate?

Given an image ratio (or pixel size) and a paper or frame size, it gives the printed image size, the borders as they actually land on the sheet, the mat opening and outer size, what is cropped when you fill the sheet, and the effective pixels per inch. Every result shows its inputs so you can check it against a ruler.

Why are my borders bigger than the minimum I set?

Because the image ratio does not match the sheet. A 3:2 image on 40 × 50 cm cannot have 40 mm all round — the leftover height goes into the top and bottom borders. The app shows the resolved borders, not the nominal ones, and splits the leftover by your bottom-weight setting.

Does “Read from a photo” upload my picture?

No. The system photo picker runs outside the app, so no Photos permission is requested, and only the pixel dimensions are read from the file header. The image is never displayed, stored or sent anywhere. You can also type the pixel size by hand.

Millimetres or inches?

Both. Switch at the bottom of the screen; every value, the diagram and the shared plan follow, and units are never mixed. Inches are shown to the nearest 1/16.

Does the app work offline?

Completely. There is no account, no server and no analytics. Saved sizes stay on your device. Read our Privacy Policy.

Is it really free?

Yes — no purchases, no subscription, no ads. Stampa di Luce is the free member of the di Luce family; Diario, Forma and Schema are paid and are what pay for this one.
