BugQuest runs entirely on your device — and it was built for families first. There are no user accounts, no sign-ups, no servers of its own, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The full species guide ships inside the app and works offline.
Nothing. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The developer has no access to anything you or your children do in the app.
Photos you take of insects are stored only inside the app on your device. Identification happens on the device itself, using Apple’s built-in image analysis — your photos are never uploaded, and never leave your phone unless you choose to share one.
BugQuest never asks for location permission and has no access to GPS. Your “region” is simply a province you pick from a list (for example “Dalarna”), stored only on your device so the app can show region-flavoured messages. It says roughly where you chose to explore — never where you actually are.
Your catches, favourites, points, and explorer rank are saved on your device only. Deleting the app deletes them.
The Share button uses the standard iOS share sheet, and only when you tap it. You decide what is shared and with whom; the app never sends anything on its own.
BugQuest is designed to be safe for children: it collects no data from anyone, including children, and contains no advertising, no third-party services, no chat, and no external links in gameplay. There is nothing to consent to, because there is nothing collected.
The species photos in the field guide are Creative Commons-licensed images from Wikimedia Commons, bundled with the app. Photographer credits are shown in the app under Profile → Photo Credits. This is reference content, not user data.
